April is the path to brighter days…

When I wrote this over the Easter weekend it was beautifully warm and sunny outside, and now the weather has turned again!

Hope you had a wonderful Easter. We spent a couple of days in the garden making the most of the glorious sunshine, mulching the borders and discovering all the new life emerging. Bright green blades of the naturalised and self-seeded Gladiolus Byzantinus, aka Whistling Jack stack up across the south facing borders. In a few weeks’ time these will flower into bright flags of magenta.

It's not been the best year for the narcissus. The relentless rain seen in the UK over the last few months has offered lots of lush green foliage but sadly a short flowering window, not helped either by the storms. One of our favourites though, ‘Feu de Joie’ brightened up the dullest of days as we finally reached Spring, followed by the beautiful ‘Poet’s Narcissus’ aka ‘Pheasants Eye’. Also, the multi-headed “Geranium’, perfect for pots have the best scent - always recommend this narcissus to perk up a patio.

We are looking forward to the sweet scent of apple blossom this spring. Blankets of forget-me-nots are starting to cover the area around the base of the apple trees. All of this to come!

It’s April and tulip mania has begun. So many flowers are bursting open in the terracotta pots along the cottage.

Coral pinks of Mystic van Eijk, soft apricot pinks of early flowering Apricona and the vintage beauty of ‘ Belle Époque’. Some of last years pots below.

A few new products have been added to our store including a garden tool roll, made using organic cotton canvas. Follow the link below.

Wishing you a happy April! Let’s hope we get more sunny days this month. The Country Crib Studio is back on the road again with Spring markets and fairs. Check out our events page ‘On the Road’ - we hope to see you soon x
